Books

To better facilitate SDR learning, Paul Clark co-wrote a series of books, entitled Field Expedient SDR. This series explained how to use GNU Radio – the most powerful SDR software available – while simultaneously learning foundational radio concepts.

The series was well-received, but as time wore on it required significant updates. Years of teaching SDR to in-person classes showed us better ways to communicate the material, and GNU Radio had acquired a lot of new functionality that we wanted to cover.

Enter our friends at No Starch Press! We’re excited to partner with them for our heavily updated introductory SDR book entitled Practical SDR. This new, updated title covers the material in our previous Volumes 1 and 2 (the green and red books), but with vastly improved content.

As always, we don’t just throw a bunch of dry explanations at you. You’ll actually get your hands dirty (metaphorically… unless you have a really dirty keyboard) with a host of GNU Radio projects – each one allowing you to work with modulators, gain stages, filters and more. This active learning turns on a lot more lightbulbs than the dry textbook approach.
